ELECTRICAL SAFETY EQUIPMENT

Electrical safety equipment records, EICR-ready

Build an inventory of all electrical safety equipment with unique serial numbers, calibration dates and certificates. A PAT-tested appliance and a fixed installation's EICR each sit against their own item, not a shared folder of paperwork from whoever tested it last. When your electrician or an insurer asks what's due, the answer is a look-up, not a search.

No credit card required.

The inspections get done. Proving they were done is the part that costs you.

Every EICR and PAT test on its own retest schedule

  • Paper EICR and PAT certificates get filed away in a cabinet by date, so proving what's current means opening every folder until you find the latest one.

  • The electrician who carried out the last test holds the only copy, on their own system, until someone remembers to chase them for it.

  • A spreadsheet tracks retest dates until whoever maintained it moves on, and the next update never comes.

  • Schedule Manager

Set retest intervals per item, from a PAT-tested appliance to a fixed installation's EICR, each running as its own schedule with alerts before anything falls due.

  • Checklist Editor

PAT- and EICR-aligned checklists, matched against manufacturer data in the Papertrail Product Directory, or build your own with the Checklist Editor on Expert and Enterprise.

  • Certificates

Every test produces a shareable certificate, filed against the right item automatically.

Your electrical safety records, visible to whoever needs them

PartnerHub connects your account to the organisations you work with, so they see the records you share, and every update to them, in their own workspace.

  1. Invite

Invite the electrician who carries out your EICR, or an insurer, into a PartnerHub partnership

  2. See

They see the live record in their own workspace, with its full test history, not a certificate emailed after the fact

  3. Withdraw

Withdraw access at any time: they keep a read-only copy of the record as it stood, with no further updates

Every PAT test and EICR, scheduled to your intervals

The Electricity at Work Regulations 1989 don't set how often you test. That's for your competent person to decide.

In Papertrail, they can create a schedule for each type of test and apply it to every appliance and installation it covers. You're alerted before each test is due, the job goes to whoever does the testing, and the PAT result or EICR is stored against the item, ready when your insurer or an auditor asks.

Common questions

Will my team actually adopt it?

Papertrail is built around the inspection your team already does: scan the tag, work through the checklist, save. RWE's technicians are working in it after a half-hour session, and Hogan Group runs it across a team aged 18 to 79 on minimal training. When questions come up, our support team's average first response time is under 8 minutes.

Can you migrate us from spreadsheets or another system?

Our team handles the data migration for you, so your electrical safety register is ready to work with rather than waiting on you to key it in. We set up your folder structure, frequencies and states with you first, and help bring your existing appliance, distribution board and installation records across from a spreadsheet or your current system.

How often does an EICR need renewing?

There's no single fixed interval. The Electricity at Work Regulations 1989 set no fixed number, and the IET's own Code of Practice removed its old sample-interval table in 2020, specifically so a competent person sets it against a genuine risk assessment rather than a rule of thumb. Papertrail runs each item's retest cycle against whatever interval that assessment sets, so nothing is checked off the wrong calendar.

What are an EICR and a PAT test?

An EICR (Electrical Installation Condition Report) examines a building's fixed wiring, tested and reported against BS 7671. A PAT test examines what plugs into it instead, kettles, monitors, power tools, extension leads, on a risk-based interval rather than a fixed one. Papertrail runs each as its own schedule and checklist, so an EICR due in three years and a PAT test due next month never get checked off the same calendar.

Does Papertrail carry out the EICR or the PAT test itself?

No. Papertrail is where the record and certificate live, not who does the testing. A qualified electrician or a competent person still inspects the installation or appliance and produces the result. Papertrail schedules when that's due, stores the certificate against the right item, and alerts you before the next one falls due.
